This very special Nicaraguan coffee comes to us from Jose Francisco and Emma at Finca El Mirador which we found through our relationship with Ben and Gold Mountain Coffee Growers. Mirador translates as “viewpoint, lookout or vantage point”. Jose Francisco and Emma are in the process of expanding their farm and increasing their area of coffee cultivation, which only became possible after Gold Mountain Coffee Growers helped them escape from a predatory debt cycle.

Finca El Mirador is a small but burgeoning farm in the Jinotega region is contained within a unique high-altitude microclimate with colder temps and more cloud cover that necessitates a later harvest and more nutrient absorption from the soil. The result is more complex cupping notes and denser, sweeter beans. Additionally, the newly-acquired portion of their farm is interspersed with cilantro, carrots, and other vegetables to supplement their income.

This coffee is very subtle, sweet and complex (multiple flavors as it cools). We get notes of black cherry and creme brulee at “prime drinking temperature” from this ultra smooth cup. Enjoy!
